TRASHED MEDICAL RECORDS SUBJECT OF INVESTIGATION

In a report by Amanda Hernandez posted to the website of Las Vegas, NV-based, CBS-affiliate, Channel 8, police are investigating how thousands of files containing patient's records wound up in an apartment dumpster.

According to the report, the files were filled with copies of social security cards, drivers’ licenses and even test results for HIV patients.

The doctor to whom the records were traced says he is completely unable to explain how this happened. According to the report, he believes the records may have been stolen from his office.

The records have been taken into police custody, pending an investigation that could result in fines and charges for violating Nevada’s destruction requirement.
