NEW YORK STATE TO LICENSE DATA DESTRUCTION COMPANIES

Effective October 1, 2008, data destruction companies providing services in New York State must register with the Secretary of State. The registration, which requires an application fee of $50, will require company owners to provide criminal and financial background information prior to the issuance of a license, as well as investigate any claims of false or misleading claims by service providers. The license must be periodically renewed.
